Draw inspiration from Belstaff
Belstaff is a designer British brand renowned for its iconic wax cotton jackets. Established in the UK in 1924, the luxury label has been designing some of the finest outerwear pieces on offer, perfect for those who enjoy life. With iconic prints, belted waists and statement colours, Belstaff is renowned for producing high quality pieces that are perfect to look at when you're on the go.
History of Belstaff
Founded in England by Harry Grosberg, the brand first produced workwear for British riders, craftsmen and soldiers. The first Belstaff waxed jacket was created by Tom Geer, a tailor from Devon who worked for Grosberg. Taking inspiration from existing American designs, the jackets were made using an innovative new waterproof fabric called 'Belgium cloth'.
The original waxed cotton jacket or 'Roadmaster' as it became known, was an impressive piece that shielded riders from the elements. In 1939, with Europe on the brink of war, American motorcyclist Kenny Clark toured Europe with a Roadmaster jacket given to him by his father who had been buying the jackets since 1928. Travelling through France and Italy, Clark was impressed by the durability of his jacket, a tough outer shell that kept him dry and warm during many adventures.
Back in America at the same time, the US Army Air Corps commissioned Belstaff to create an extreme weather coat for its pilots. Tom Geer went on to design the extremely popular 'T-jacket' that has been copied by many brands over the years. Geer's jacket proved extremely popular and provided Belstaff with plenty of both fame and fortune throughout the years.
Belstaff today
The strength in design has enabled Belstaff to adapt and change its products over time, keeping up with new trends whilst maintaining its heritage for high-quality workwear that lasts the test of time. The British heritage continues with the brand's unique designs and production techniques, a reflection of Belstaff founder Harry Grosberg desire to create products with an emphasis on quality and durability.
Belstaff jackets and coats still lead the way in design and technology and continue to be worn by those who enjoy high-quality sportswear. Get fast international shipping throughout Canada with Mainline Menswear.
